& Calder White

Prince George Playhouse

May 10th, 2025 | $45/Ticket

Tara Cheyenne ‘Pants’

Can one reimagine gender from inside a middle-aged body while standing at the playground caught in the no "man's" land between the "moms" and the "dads"? Pants takes a deep dive into the shallow end of the gender binary through raw comedy and dance that crawls inside our "packaging". What happens to one's flimsy identity, built on blending, when one's offspring sheds the binary before recess? Profoundly personal storytelling is delivered through alarming comedy and movement that reveals the heart of the matter.

Calder White 'BABY

is a contemporary dance theatre piece that integrates puppetry, prop, and costume to distort the audience's perception of the number of 'real' bodies on stage. The characters we encounter in the piece exist at the intersection of intimacy, anonymity, and horror, multiplying and projecting themselves onto other parts of their own bodies, onto the bodies of other performers, and outwards into space in the pursuit of connection.

J.S. Bach’s Long Walk
in the Snow

Knox Performance Centre
Apr. 24th 2025 | $60/Ticket

Know Performance Centre welcomes CBC’s Tom Allen and friends to the stage for “JS Bach’s Long Walk in the Snow,” a narrated performance accompanied by music. About the show, Allan writes that it “…is a coming-of-age-story about a hot-headed, small-town orphan who narrowly avoided committing murder, turned his back on a perfectly good job and walked 400 kilometres north to find love, fulfilment, and the father figure he didn’t know he needed.” The 20-year old’s trek to the sophisticated port city of Lubeck was a four-month odyssey, a memorable coming-of-age trip that musical storyteller Tom Allen takes you along for a tale of sword fights, big business, and a glittering Christmas romance.

O’Celli
Knox Performance Centre
Dec. 7th 2024 | $70/Ticket

What can sound better than a cello? Eight cellos! This instrument, the closest to the human voice, is one of the few which carries being multiplied. When played together with others, the beauties of this intrument add up, giving birth to a unique, full and exceptional sound. Ô-Celli was brought to life by the shared passion of eight cellists, chamber musicians and concertists, for this exceptional vibration they created. Together, they take us on a fabulous journey through a repertoire of both original and arranged pieces, as they eagerly travel through a wide musical panel, ranging from Tchaikovsky to Strauss, passing by the music of Piazzolla and Nino Rota.

Ballet Kelowna - taqəš and Other Works

April 5th, 2024 | 7 PM
Vanier Hall

The taqəš and Other Works program features a stunning lineup of signature works from Ballet Kelowna’s contemporary ballet repertoire. With Cameron Fraser-Monroe’s powerful and compelling taqəš [tawKESH], Guillaume Côté’s mesmerizing Bolero, and Fraser-Monroe’s satirical The Cowboy Act Suite, this high-energy program promises to please a wide range of spectators.

Cameron Fraser-Monroe brings his classical ballet training, knowledge of traditional Coast Salish, Grass, and Hoop Dance, and experience as a contemporary dancer to taqəš [tawKESH], which means “to return something” in Ayajuthem, the language belonging to the Homalco, Klahoose, K’omoks and Tla’amin Nations. Set to several songs by Polaris Prize-winning composer and singer Jeremy Dutcher, taqəš follows the traditional story “Raven Returns the Water,” centred around ῤoho (raven) and walθ (frog).

Next, National Ballet of Canada Choreographic Associate Guillaume Côté brings strength and fragility to a fascinating interpretation of the beloved Boléro by Maurice Ravel, one of music’s most famous and identifiable melodies. A “riveting tour de force” (Dance Magazine), Bolero (2012) features breathtaking lifts and virtuosic choreography.

Rounding out the program, audiences will be transported to the Wild West in Cameron Fraser-Monroe’s The Cowboy Act Suite, a work that explores the dichotomy between “Cowboys and Indians” set to music by Mohawk singer/songwriter Tom Wilson. While these caricatures have been portrayed on pages, stages, and in films, they are often penned from a colonial perspective. Fraser-Monroe’s intuitive take on the swashbuckling strut of the Cowboy informs this intellectual unpacking of a one-sided lens and flips the script to ask, what happens when an Indian directs the Cowboys through their history?

Total running time including pause and 15-minute intermission = 86 minutes

Jhoely Triana Flamenco
and NAVAZ

October 6th, 2023 | 7 PM
Knox Performance Centre

Jhoely Triana Flamenco features Jhoely Triana and her band, bringing you a full hour of latin-infused flamenco music and dance. Her performance includes three solos from her Arboles (Trees) performance, which revolves around the concept of memories. The performance uses the metaphor of trees to represent how we must honor our roots and gather strength from our past to reach new heights so that we can share our lived experiences with our community and spread the seeds of empathy and compassion.

Navaz began as a musical collaboration between Neda Jalali and Eric Tompkins. Eric's jazz and Latin guitar stylings and his interest in world music compliments Neda's beautifully haunting voice. Neda sings mostly in Farsi, but she also sings in Spanish, French, Italian, Arabic, and English. The mystical poetry of Hafez and Rumi, traditional Persian melodies, jazz, Latin and blues rhythms are all part of the Navaz experience.
